Hoilday Shopping Extravaganza

Thank you so much to everyone that stopped by Cakes by Carrie tonight. It was a great night. It is humbling to hear such nice comments about my work. I truly love baking and decorating. I have so much to be thankful for.

For tonight's event made a 2 tiered cake decorated in Christmas colors. Chocolate with candy cane filling and vanilla with raspberry filling. They were both super yummy but I think candy cane butter cream is my new favorite filling. Wow the cake pops were a hit!
It has been a busy week for CBC, thank you to my fans for that :) I had an order this week for a soccer ball cake. I have made other soccer ball cakes in the past, however this time I used fondant and was amazed how real the ball looked.

Have been playing with more gluten free recipes. People are surprised when they find out I offer gluten free. Not going to lie the 1st time I tried it I was worried. Only because I had no idea what I would end up with. To my surprise all turned out well. So often you hear people are gluten free for a verify of reasons and I love the idea of being able to provide everyone with yummy cakes. :)

My amazing husband celebrated his birthday this week. He is having the guys over for poker and the UFC fight on Sat. Have a fun poker cake idea I will whip up for that. He told me "Oh, Carrie don't worry about it a simple cake is fine". I just can't do it, I go all out on everyone else's cake. I would feel like I was cheating if I didn't do the same for him.

Thank you again to all of you I met tonight and a very big thank you to Kim and Stacey for hosting such a great event. I look forward to working with all of you soon :)

Vroom Vroom Gluten and Dairy Free!

I was happy to get a special order for a gluten and dairy free cake. It made me so happy to be able to make a cake for little Kaden, everyone disservice a cake on their day. I was also interested to see how the cake would back, and of course taste. The batter reminded me a bit of red velvet batter as it was a bit oily. The next time I make a G&D cake I will cut back on the oil a bit. It also did not raise during baking as much as other cakes. Dew to being gluten free the cake took on a denser texture. I would compare it to brownie like. Taste was good, not as sweet as other chocolate cakes and not as fluffy but still very moist. I liked it. Even my husband liked it :) I was able to use fondant as I made sure all my ingredients were gluten free, good thing little Kaden can have sugar :)

Love my little Buzz

I started making cakes 4 years ago, I wanted to be able to make fun and memorable cakes for my son. It all started with a baseball cake, 2nd year Elmo, 3rd year bowling ball (this was my one cake wreck, I will tell that story another time) and year 4 Toy Story. I love you T!!!

Classic Pooh

This cake was made for a close friends baby shower. They are expecting their 1st any day now. Can't wait to meet the little pumpkin seen. They did not find out the sex of the baby. I love it that way.

I Crazy

Ahhhh so happy!! Able to post photos, and the best part is I did it myself. I did not have to ask my husband for help. (this is big for me)

So many people LOVE their iPod, iPad, iTouch and let me not forget the beloved IPHONE! When I was asked to make an iPhone cake I giggled a bit and said oh sure I can do that, no problem. I happen to be a lover (most of the time) of my Black Berry and because of that had only a vague idea what an iPhone looked like. I pulled up a photo of an iPhone on my Black Berry as reference and also called a friend asking all kinds of silly questions about what the phone looks like when a message is coming though and such. So this is what I came up with and I have to say it's not that bad. Alex (the iPhone lover the cake was made for) loved it, and in the end that is all that really matters.

hmmmmm

I have two neat cakes to show you........but..........I'm not able to add them to this post for some reason. I'm sure it's me doing something wrong. I am really bad with computers. I think my grandmother is better with her computer them I am with mine. So with that said once I have it figured out (get Rob to help me) I will add photos of a fun IPhone birthday cake and a super cute Classic Pooh and Friends baby shower cake. Thank you :)

My dear friend Kristina celebrated her birthday this weekend. I was so happy to be able to give her a cake she loved. Kris I love you and I'm do grateful for you and our friendship!!

I did not take photos of this cake before delivery, so please excuse my husbands hands in the photos. The table cloth on the table was causing the photos to come out strange so I had my hubby hold the cake so I could get a photo with a dark back round. (thanks babe :))

The birthday girls favorite cake is red valet and so that's what she got on her day. This was the 1st time making a RV cake from scratch and it turned out GREAT!! I mixed some vanilla butter cream with cream cheese frosting and used as the filling (yummy!) I wish I had a photo after we cut the cake. It was a deep beautiful red color. Cake is covered and decorated with rolled fondant.

The cake gods were on my side during delivery. While driving the cake stand tipped over. I quickly pulled over and while holding my breath I picked up the stand and NOTHING had happened to the cake!! I could not believe it. I wiped the sweat from my brow and set off again. Due to he heat in AZ I did have to scrap a pick letter K that I had on top. I was OK with it in the end as I LOVED how this cake turned out.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRIS!!!!!!!

Three layer 8 inch round vanilla cake with the yummiest (is that a word?) Ghirardelli Chocolate filling. With the left over filling we were dipping fresh strawberries, let me tell you it was a little slice of heave in my kitchen that evening. I love the colors on this cake. They all came out really nice. The pink and green are fun and girly without being over the top.
Carrie :)

We had a few friends over for the 4th of July and I whipped this cake together (cuz, it's not a real party with out a cake! right?) People kept saying how pretty the cake was with the fresh fruit and it be red, white and blue. It was a real hit. I had a little surprise for them.....................Red, white and blue on the inside as well!! Was very happy with how true the colors turned out.
Happy Birthday America!!

So offend in life we as humans over look the joy. Joy is all around us, in every thing and in everyone. At times it seems easier to look at the negative, compare our self to others and ask why me, or even why them? We only fall to our knees and ask God when we really want something then have the nerve to be angry when our prays go unanswered. I know I have done this, been angry and questioned the existence of God only because my selfish prays had not been answered. Then smack, it happens. While at the store or standing in line at the post office or the quite moments alone you see it, the answer you have been looking for. In that moment perspective is the gift.

This weekend I worked on a Lighting McQueen cake for a little guy for his 3rd birthday. Photos to come soon. I will also be adding photos of some of my "older cakes" soon. I have to scan them in, and if you know me at all you know that I have no idea how to scan anything onto a computer. I'm not even completely sure I'm using the right terms. Whatever, they will be added after I google 'how to scan photos" or cave in and ask the hubby to help. The later is so much easier and much faster.

First real cupcake order. Frosted with butter cream, dots and curly que made of mm fondant. These were for a a first birthday, colors were deep yellow, red, white, brown, and turquoise. The colors came out so nice I really liked the turned out.

Oh, the ladybug cake!! I have always thought ladybugs were so cute. I remember as a child I would catch them and keep them in my room in a Miracle Whip jar. I really had fun making this cake. Maybe because I would love to have this as my birthday cake. This little bug was for Riley on her 1st birthday. An 8 inch white cake, covered in butter cream. Daisy and ladybug are made of mm fondant.
Carrie :)

White cake covered in mm fondant. This cake was made for a book club meeting. The book they were discussing that night was The Great Gatsby (by the way I did not read the book, guess I was to busy making the cake hehehe) The cake was a hit among the ladies.

Oh the baby shower cake. This cake is special for a handful of reasons.
1. It was for my good and silly friend J
2. Was the 1st time I worked with fondant!!
3. Was my 1st paying customer
4. This is the cake that started it all as I like to say. In the past I had only made cakes for my son and other family members. J asked me to make the cake for her shower after posting on Facebook and by word of mouth I have had the privilege of making cakes for others. I have loved every min of it and continue to enjoy it. I love trying new things and learning as I go. Thank you to all of my current and future customers.

This cake is special it was made for my "2nd son G" for his 3rd birthday. My son T and G are best friends they are able to play together almost everyday, so that's were the "2nd son" comes from. G loves trains so that what he got. This is a 10 inch white base with a 6 inch white with a dome on top to make the hill/tunnel. Train is made of rice crispy treats covered in mm fondant. G loved this cake he was s excited when he saw it he dug right in (can't see on this photo but there was a perfect little 3 year old bite behind he train. So funny!!
